Lindsey is contracted to provide therapy services with several insurance companies including:
$125 for 80 minute intake/assessment
$105 for 50 minute session
There are benefits to paying for services out of pocket. One of the biggest advantages is complete confidentiality. Your treatment stays between you and your therapist. When insurance is involved, clients must receive a diagnosis and the insurance companies can access all client records including session notes.
The other main advantage to paying for services out of pocket is that if insurance companies are paying for sessions, then they get to dictate the terms of therapy. The second there isn’t a problem or a diagnosable disorder, clients stop meeting “medical necessity,” and therapy is supposed to end. But what about people who had a problem, they got better, and now, they just want to work on personal growth? Or, what about people who don’t meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis? If insurance is involved, these people wouldn’t be eligible for therapy.
Here is the bottom line. We like our clients to be in control of their treatment and for their information to be completely confidential. We want them to be able to get what they need instead of an insurance company dictating the terms of therapy. Therefore, we like clients to consider paying for services out of pocket.
If you really want to use insurance, and we don’t take your plan…
Some insurance plans carry Out-of-Network (OON) benefits. You need to check with your insurance company to see if this is part of your specific plan. For clients with OON benefits, we can supply a “Superbill,” which is basically a receipt that shows exactly what you paid for sessions. Clients can then submit their Superbill to their insurance company and be reimbursed for a portion of the cost. Clients with OON benefits are routinely reimbursed by their insurance company when they present a Superbill. However, we cannot guarantee insurance companies will reimburse for sessions, and clients are responsible for the cost of sessions.
That sounds complicated. Can someone help me?
For clients that need a little help understanding their OON benefits, we recommend a company called Better. Better can facilitate the entire process of using your OON benefits for a small fee. You can check out their website at getbetter.co.
Our clinicians don’t check benefits or interact with insurance companies on our clients’ behalves. Unfortunately, that can be very time consuming, and we need to be spending our time in sessions doing what we really love – therapy.
We accept cash, check, Health Savings Account cards, and all major credit cards as forms of payment.
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged a $50.00 fee. We do make exceptions for emergencies and sudden illness.
